Q. why do i have to pay parking fees on the weekend and during special events?

Q. Why does ascarate lake close after a fish stocking?
A. The park procedure following a fish stocking is to close the lake for 24 hours. The fish are not fed prior to their travel, making them very hungry. The lake closure allows the fish time to eat, and spread around the lake. This creates a healthier environment for the fish, and gives all anglers equal opportunity to fish.
